Returning to the Land: Raising the Next Generation of Regenerative Farmers
Join me and my family as we open the next chapter of our lives!
In an era of rapid urbanization and disconnection from nature, a growing movement is underway to return to the land and cultivate a deeper relationship with the earth.
After a much needed break from the social media world, I am slowly stepping back in to share what we have been up to!
So many changes and yet, I feel that I'm returning to myself. Coming full circle and allowing dreams to become reality.
I have stepped out of my way, opened up to a handful of people and what was once a “Maybe someday,” is now our life. It hasn't been easy-lots of sweat, some blood, some moments of letting myself think I had made a mistake and some absolutely breathtaking moments where I have finally felt at home.
I'll most likely share more of the in-between as time goes on, but for now I want to welcome you home with us. This is Salita Del Sol and below is a little piece of my/our why.
In an era of rapid urbanization and disconnection from nature, a growing movement is underway to return to the land and cultivate a deeper relationship with the earth. Regenerative farming, a holistic approach to agriculture that prioritizes soil health, biodiversity, and ecosystem balance, is at the forefront of this movement and I say that with a little hesitation because many before us farmed this way. We are not really creating something new, but perhaps realizing that we need to return to the ways of those that came before us. We must give more than we receive, leave more than we harvest and be mindful of what seeps into our lives.
As we strive to create a more sustainable future, it's essential to involve the next generation in this journey. By raising children who nurture the land, we can ensure a brighter, more resilient future for all and we can ensure the health and wellness of our community.
Reconnecting with Nature
Growing up in a world dominated by screens and concrete, many children are disconnected from the natural world. I, for one, am grateful that I don't know a concrete jungle world. I was raised outdoors and loving nature was just part of life. That's not the case for every child, but we hope to change that. By introducing children along with their families to the land and the rhythms of nature, we can foster a deep sense of wonder, curiosity, and stewardship. Regenerative farming offers a unique opportunity for children to learn about the interconnectedness of ecosystems, the importance of soil health, and the value of biodiversity. Most children are connected to the earth in ways we often have lost, so perhaps this is a way for us all to return to what's most important.
The Benefits of Raising Children on the Land
Raising children on the land provides numerous benefits, including:
Hands-on learning: Children can participate in planting, harvesting, and tending to the land, developing essential skills and a sense of responsibility.
Connection to nature: By spending time outdoors, children can develop a deep appreciation for the natural world and a sense of awe for its beauty and complexity.
Holistic education: Regenerative farming offers a unique opportunity for children to learn about science, math, and other subjects in a practical, experiential way.
Community building: Working together on the land can foster a sense of community and cooperation, essential for building strong, resilient relationships.
Nurturing the Next Generation of Regenerative Farmers
As we strive to create a more sustainable future, it's essential to involve children in the process. By teaching them about regenerative farming and the importance of nurturing the land, we can empower them to become the next generation of leaders and innovators. Here are a few ways to get started:
Involve children in farm activities: Encourage children to participate in planting, harvesting, and tending to the land.
Teach them about soil health: Explain the importance of soil conservation, composting, and other regenerative practices.
Foster a sense of wonder: Encourage children to explore and appreciate the natural world, asking questions and seeking answers.
Model sustainable behaviors: Demonstrate the importance of living sustainably and regeneratively, and children will follow your lead.
Here at Salita Del Sol, we want to return children to the land so they can develop a deep connection with nature and a sense of responsibility for the earth. By raising children who nurture the land, we can ensure a brighter, more resilient future for all. As we strive to create a more sustainable world, let's prioritize the next generation and empower them to become the leaders and innovators of tomorrow.
